Update 6/1/2015: Read GLAAD's updated tip sheet for journalists reporting on Caitlyn Jenner.

GLAAD today responded to E!'s special "Keeping Up with the Kardashians: About Bruce":

"When a person transitions, their family and loved ones go through their own journey to acceptance," said Nick Adams, GLAAD's Director of Programs, Transgender Media. "In these specials, Jenner's family allowed viewers a glimpse of what that process sometimes looks like. As more families learn about what it means to be transgender, hopefully more trans people will find love and acceptance from those closest to them."

"Coming out is almost never easy," said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. "But learning that someone you love is LGBT can also sometimes be difficult. Stories about the path to understanding are critical to accelerating acceptance and helping people love their LGBT friends and family members exactly as they are."

GLAAD previously released a tip sheet for journalists reporting about Bruce Jenner and transgender issues. That tip sheet is available here.

Part Two of E!'s special "Keeping Up with the Kardashians: About Bruce" will air Monday, May 18, at 9:00 p.m. To learn more about transgender issues and being an ally to trans people, check out the resources from GLAAD's Transgender Media Program.

Editor's note: At this time, Bruce Jenner has not requested that a new name or pronoun be used, therefore we are respecting his wishes and will continue to refer to Jenner by his current name and with male pronouns. Some transgender people prefer to change their name and/or pronoun quickly. Other transgender people may take more time to decide what name and/or pronoun feels right to them. To be respectful, use the name and/or pronoun requested by the individual.
